Rainwater Collection

A rain barrel was installed to the downspout of the gutter system to collect and store precipitation that is used for watering the gardens. Rain barrels are available in many sizes and styles and are a simple way to conserve water for use around the home.

Rainwater Collection Grates are buried beneath the gravel trail behind the building.  Water that falls from the roof travels through underground pipes to the underground collection area.  The water is stored temporarily and is gradually released into the forest.  This feature prevents erosion and flooding during times of high rainfall or snowmelt.
